Hey, have a pyrophobic Psychobaby on your hands this holiday weekend? I definitely was one. I hate fires in a fireplace, matches, birthday candles... you name it, I'll be standing 10 yards away. So the Fourth of July was always TERRIFYING to me. The only kind of fireworks I could handle were those silly little popper things that you throw at the ground.
I can still barely hold on to a sparkler for fear that it might explode.
Don't worry, even if you or your little ones are scaredy-cats like me or this kid, you can still have some slightly explosive fun this Fourth of July weekend.
Going to the beach or have a sandbox/nice pile of dirt in your yard? Grab the baking soda and vinegar and build a mini volcano!
Form the sand into a mountain shape, scoop out a place in the top to stick a plastic cup, throw some baking soda in, and top it off with some vinegar! No fear here... Get as close as you want to watch your super scientific eruption ensue!!
I made one of these volcanoes last fall to entertain a bored little dude at a wedding reception, and I think I might have even had more fun with it than he did.
Bubbles are always a fail-safe outdoor activity, chasing & popping them never gets boring! Melissa & Doug makes these great bubble buckets, less mess and more fun!
And if you're somewhere with some concrete that could use a little color - here's a cool alternative to sidewalk chalk!
Spray Chalk
List of Ingredients:
4 tablespoons of cornstarch
1 cup of warm water
4 - 6 drops of food coloring
1 small spray bottle
Recipe:
Mix all ingredients in bowl. Pour mixture into spray bottle. Shake and spray. This spray chalk washes off. Use it to paint on sand, snow or the sidewalk.
I would totally pick up several of the little travel spray bottles you can get at Target or a drugstore and make a whole bunch of different colors... it's kind of like liquid rainbow fireworks!
Have fun & a SAFE, awesome Fourth!!

Happy 82nd Birthday, Eric Carle!
Yesterday was Eric Carle's 82nd birthday! In honor of this special event, we've been a bunch of Very Busy Spiders over the past couple of weeks. We've gathered a handful of the coolest and most creative Eric Carle inspired toys to show our love for his work and give your Psychoartist something to exercise their creative muscles.
Part of the reason we love Mr. Carle so much is because of his ability to make learning creative and fun. He once said, "With many of my books I attempt to bridge the gap between the home and school. To me home represents, or should represent; warmth, security, toys, holding hands, being held."
We also dig Eric's artistic style. His use of collage technique on hand-painted paper is often complemented with interactive elements like twinkling lights, cricket noises, and artwork that is fun for your little one to play with. His appeal to all of the senses will engage your Psychobaby for hours. Head over to our Eric Carle Shop and check out our toys, books, art supplies and more!

You Don't Need to be British to Enjoy a Good Tea Party!
The tea party was a time-honored tradition in my household. Back during my hostess days, I had a bright pink plastic tea set with a floral print and served my guests fake biscuits made out of grass and flowers and pretty much anything else I could find in our backyard. The next day you could always tell where I had the party set up because of the miniature crop-circles that appeared in the grass from my "cooking".
Imagination was really all I needed, until my father made me promise not to ruin the lawn anymore. Therefore, in honor of the arrival of Summer I have compiled a list of my favorite pretend food toys to keep the little party planners AND all the lawn-loving dads out there happy!
It a good thing that Mr. Bunny and your Jem and the Hologram dolls will never taste the difference.

With any one of these awesome pretend food sets, your tea party will be rocking in no time! So, put the grass down, keep calm and party on.
