Veggie Chili Recipe from The Kids' Table!

Psychobaby friend, and fellow mom, Elena, from The Kids' Table, just sent over an awesome vegetarian chili recipe that we had to share! Perfect for Sunday dinners, football watching, or feeding your brood and all of their friends, this hearty recipe makes us excited for cooler weather!

Elena says:

"Nothing says fall like chili – and you’ll be hard pressed to find a chili that says it better than this one. With red kidney and black beans, sweet potatoes, and corn, it’s a protein and vitamin rich one-pot meal. We made this for dinner last Sunday, inspired by stories of the chili competition that my son, Jake, had just participated in on his 7th grade class canoe trip. Corn played a prominent role in his team’s submission, which took a very respectable second place. At our Sunday dinner, the chili got rave reviews from all adults and three of the four kids. The one dissenting vote was from my younger son, Aleks. But since no more than a molecule of it passed his lips, I’m not sure that his vote counts. (As a recovering picky eater, he still shies away from “combined foods.”) He did ask to taste the raw green pepper as I was cutting it up and liked it. I’ll call that a victory!"

Enjoy the Veggie Chili Recipe below, and check out more kid-friendly yumminess at http://thekidstablechicago.blogspot.com!

Ingredients
2 T olive oil
1 medium red onion, chopped
1 green bell pepper, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 ½ T chili powder
½ tsp ground cumin
½ tsp dried oregano
½ tsp salt
1 14.5 oz can each black beans and red kidney beans, undrained
1 14.5 oz can crushed tomatoes
1 small sweet potato, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch cubes (about 8 oz)
Kernels from 2 ears corn (or 2 cups frozen corn, thawed)
Greek-style yogurt for serving (optional)

Directions
Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat and saute onion, pepper and garlic
until soft, about 5 minutes. Add chili powder, cumin, oregano and salt and cook,
stirring, for one more minute. Stir in beans (with liquid), tomatoes and cubed
sweet potatoes. Bring to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce heat to low.
Simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, until sweet potatoes are tender, about
15 minutes. Add corn and simmer for another 3 minutes. Season to taste with
additional salt if needed. Serve with a dollop of Greek-style yogurt if desired, and
enjoy!

Makes 6 servings

Food Network Magazine Enjoys Psychobaby's Sweet Treats

Psychobaby is so honored that our Personalized Sweet Treats BFF tee was included in this months issue of Food Network Magazine!

We were also excited to learn about nine year old Alex, pictured above. Alex is from Fairfield County, CT and writes an amazing food blog called sundaydinners.com
Check it out! You will find charming recipes and great, honest reviews from a cool kids perspective.

With my family's hectic schedule, we cherish our Sunday dinners. Often one or all of my three boys will help me cook part of our meal. It is without question my favorite day of the week! It brings back great memories of my childhood, cooking with my Italian grandmother every Sunday. I'm glad to carry on the tradition and hope I have also passed down the importance of connecting through a meal to my guys.

Babycrat or Weepublican? Don't be a Party Pooper...

We’d like to write in a vote for our political clothes for babies and kids! Whether you are rooting donkey or elephant, Babycrats and Weepublicans can be just like their grown-up friends and support their candidate of choice! After all, babies and politicians have a long history of campaigning together on the road to the White House - presidential candidates love kissing babies, but it is a little known fact that babies also love slobbering all over political bigwigs. Add up all of those smooches and things are going to get a bit messy, which is exactly why we designed new drool-worthy bibs (and onesies and t-shirts!) for election 2012. Future Democrats and Republicans can agree on one thing: our swag will keep kiddos looking good - perfect for those childhood photo ops that resurface in election years (check out those cuties below). Psychobaby for president!
P.S. Don’t forget to vote on November 6!

Oh, and don’t even get us started on the pizza bagel, the greatest invention since, um...maybe ever! Not one for bagel noshing? We say that’s impossible, however, our Eat ‘em Up line has cheeseburgers, pizza, sushi, and more to give you your foodie fix. Eat ‘em Up!

Styles for Mommy's Little Pumpkin, the Cutest in the Patch!

Psychobaby’s Halloween gifts for baby and kids are scarier than the sight of an exploding diaper, eerier than kiddos quietly playing without a fight, and more hair raising than the 'dos in an 80's metal band. Eeeeek! Okay, think a bit more cool and crazy than scare-your-pants-off-frightening, but either way, things are getting spooky around these parts! Make sure your kiddo is outfitted for the season in our spooktacular collection of costumes, t-shirts, and accessories, and start plotting what candy you will be sneaking from their basket after they go to sleep on Halloween (like Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Nerds, Skittles, Milky Way, Snickers, Mike & Ikes... a parent’s gotta get while the gettin’ is good!). Celebrate the best sugar fix of the year, Psychobaby style!

Cupcakes to Sweeten Your Fall Style

Get frosted in our cool cupcake clothes for babies and kids! Eating cupcakes every day just isn't possible, but no one said anything about wearing cupcakes every day. Deck your kiddo out in icing
and sprinkles Psychobaby style—our favorite flavors of cupcakes are glittery, striped, or tattooed! Even though we could snack on a red velvet cupcake or twelve, we'd much prefer a dozen of these bad boys to satisfy our sweet tooth:

Handmade Hip: Grass & Clovers on Motherhood, Creativity, and Cool Kids' Clothing!

Grass & Clovers, our latest addition of cool, crazy kids’ clothing, has been getting a lot of admiration here at Psychobaby. Handmade by a mother-daughter duo, Grass & Clovers combine detailed craftsmanship with inspired, hip designs to make one-of-a-kind garments that kids (and parents!) will adore.

We knew these special designs had to have a great story behind them, so we interviewed Sara Sandler-Greisberg, co-founder of Grass & Clovers, for the scoop. Read on for musings about motherhood, flea market finds, and what inspires Sara's daily life. (Spoiler alert: she's a fan of  The Rolling Stones!)

Can you tell us a bit about what inspired your name, Grass & Clovers?
The name came from thoughts of my own childhood—what made me happy and feel good, frolicking around in the grass in the summertime and making clover crowns. It just brought me back to that happy place you can only feel in childhood!

Your mom, Debbie, instilled in you a love for handmade crafts that you have in turn developed into a successful company. Now that you are a mother yourself do you have any favorite craft projects that you enjoy doing with your own children?
There are SO many craft projects that I do with my girls; we love doing collages from magazines with fabric scraps (of course!), and beads! Also, we do make our own books to help encourage my 6-year-old's blossoming reading and writing skills—in a fun way! We have a huge armoire filled with every kind of glue, clay, paint, paper, crayon, marker, colored pencil—you name it, we have it. My older daughter really enjoys helping me with Grass & Clovers as well!

Any tips for parents who want to encourage children to embrace more tangible arts and crafts in the midst of this digital age?
I do think it's really important to sit down with your kids (when you CAN, of course!). I think what kids want more than anything else, is the attention of their parents. So my advice (and I am NO expert!) is to put the cell phones, iPads, and computers away, and sit at the table with your kids with the arts and crafts of their choice; put on some music and have a blast! Don't worry about the mess, the clean up, or what you have to make for dinner. Just be present and sit there together. It's hard to take the time to do that, but it is so important. It will also create incredible memories, not only for them, but for the parents as well.

Do you have any advice for balancing motherhood with a rapidly growing business?
I wish someone would give me some advice on this one! In all honesty, it's very difficult to balance it all, and do it all well. I found that letting things slide a little—not as many home-cooked meals, for example— is OK. It's okay to delegate, and that was HARD for me, because I am a Virgo and I know how things SHOULD be (ha ha!), but it's important.

Read more of our interview with Sara from Grass & Clovers after the jump!

Have a friend that ROCKS and is about to pop?

Rock and roll baby gifts are a great way to remind mama-to-be that her raucous ways don’t have to go away just because parenthood is around the corner. Sure, hitting the bottle at midnight will soon take on a different meaning, and she might start carpooling in her old touring van on a daily basis, but there is an upside! A lil’ rocker will be the best superfan a parent could ever dream of, and raising a kid to enjoy a life of music can only bring more good things to the world. (And rock star babies always have the best style - hello Kingston Rossdale!) The best part? Some day that kiddo will grow up and get their first “Mom” tattoo. Awwwww...all thanks to great rock-n-roll parenting. Start your friend off on the right track with a baby gift that ROCKS, and let’s hear it for all the preggo punks, rockabillies, and rockers; for those about to pop, we salute you!
