John, Paul, George & Ringo: It's a Beatles Round-Up!

The Fab Four are our fave. (Say that ten times fast!)  Their music, their fashion, their attitudes resonate with millions; I mean, there is a reason it's called Beatles MANIA! Here are just a handful of the amazing things these musicians have inspired - crafts, lullabies, and even Russian Nesting Dolls.  We had to limit ourselves to just these items this time, or this blog would be ten pages long.  Check out a tiny selection of our faves below and then come meet us in an Octopus' Garden - we'll be in the shade.

1. The Beatles Lullaby CD by Rockabye Baby Records
2. Beatles Band Cupcakes by Instructables
3. The Beatles DIY Abbey Road Art by a little artsy
4. Beatles Love Me Do Girlie T-Shirt available at Psychobabyonline

Years and years after the last Beatles Album is released (I'm sure there are some hidden tracks just biding their time to resurface...), people all over the world will still find them and fall in love with their music and their message.  Because remember:

Everyone knows Elvis loved peanut butter and banana sandwiches - here's a delicious twist to make your own PB & Banana Pancakes, via stacymakescents.com. Best of all, it's a tasty way to use up those over-ripe bananas that always seem to be hanging out on the counter!

Peanut Butter & Banana Pancakes:
2 ½ cups whole wheat pastry flour
2 tablespoons baking powder
2 tablespoons sucanat (or brown sugar)
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
¼ cup butter
¼ cup peanut butter
2 cups milk, plus more for thinning as needed
2 diced ripe bananas
In a small saucepan, melt the butter and peanut butter. In a large mixing bowl, combine all ingredients except bananas. Stir with whisk to get rid of lumps. Stir in bananas. You may need to add more milk to get the batter as thin as you like, usually about ½ up more milk.
Pour batter out onto hot griddle. Cook until you see bubbles and the sides begin to set. Flip and cook until done. Serve hot with maple syrup.
Yum! That makes use want to have breakfast for dinner! Check out even more rockin' eats and treats on our Food That Rocks Pinterest board!

You Don't Need to be British to Enjoy a Good Tea Party!

I was the life of the party...and the only one alive, so...

The tea party was a time-honored tradition in my household. Back during my hostess days, I had a bright pink plastic tea set with a floral print and served my guests fake biscuits made out of grass and flowers and pretty much anything else I could find in our backyard. The next day you could always tell where I had the party set up because of the miniature crop-circles that appeared in the grass from my "cooking".

Imagination was really all I needed, until my father made me promise not to ruin the lawn anymore. Therefore, in honor of the arrival of Summer I have compiled a list of my favorite pretend food toys to keep the little party planners AND all the lawn-loving dads out there happy!

It a good thing that Mr. Bunny and your Jem and the Hologram dolls will never taste the difference.

With any one of these awesome pretend food sets, your tea party will be rocking in no time! So, put the grass down, keep calm and party on.

National Chocolate Ice Cream Day!

First of all, stop trying to lick the screen. I know it looks good AND you skipped breakfast AND you're craving chocolate, but seriously, have a little restraint. Second, Happy National Chocolate Ice Cream Day!!!

It's not hard to believe that Chocolate Ice Cream gets its own day of recognition. It's just that delicious. The perfect summer treat, day or night. Plus chocolate is good for you...I swear! Dark chocolate (in moderation) can lower your blood pressure and cholesterol. So skip the vanilla and go straight for the good stuff - doctor's orders.

Here are some fun facts to get you in the mood to celebrate:
  • It takes about 50 licks to lick away one scoop of ice cream!
  • Of all the days of the week, most ice cream is bought on Sunday!
  • Kids aged 2-12 and adults over 45 eat the most ice cream!
  • More men (13%) admit to licking their ice cream bowl clean than women (8%)!
  • Vanilla, chocolate, butter pecan, strawberry, and mint chocolate chip are the most popular ice cream flavors!
  • Chocolate syrup is the most popular ice cream topping!
  • 5% of ice cream eaters share their ice cream with their pet!
So now that you know, go celebrate by treating yourself to a dish of chocolatey goodness, or my personal favorite a double-scoop waffle cone. But, please remember to wipe your drool off the keyboard before you leave.
